Thanks for the info. I knew you canned it but didn't know the details. What I was actually thinking is modified from your method. I have a black plastic modular compost bin that I was think of using as the can. I was going to wrap the whole tree above the bud and below the tip of the spear, then wrap with a blanket, then wrap again with frost cloth, lay christmas lights around the base of the tree and up and around it, put the compost bin on top and then fill the whole thing with leaves. Do you think that might work? The compost bing is designed with some very small spaces in between components to allow for ventilation, but I thought with triple wrapping, lights and a bin full of leaves that might work.
