AUGUST 2009 WAS THE COOLEST AUGUST SINCE 2004. THE AVERAGE MONTHLY
TEMPERATURE OF 79.1 DEGREES WAS 2.2 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL. THIS WAS
THE FIRST AUGUST SINCE 2004 WITH NO TEMPERATURES AT OR ABOVE 100
DEGREES. THE HIGHEST TEMPERATURE DURING THE MONTH WAS 94
DEGREES...WHICH OCCURRED ON THE 3RD AND 4TH. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME
THE HIGHEST TEMPERATURE IN AUGUST WAS LESS THAN 95 DEGREES SINCE
1979. THE LOWEST TEMPERATURE DURING THE MONTH WAS 59 DEGREES...WHICH
OCCURRED ON THE 24TH. THIS WAS THE COOLEST LOW TEMPERATURE RECORDED
IN AUGUST SINCE AUGUST 14TH 2004.

LITTLE ROCK
THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE WAS 79.8 DEGREES...WHICH WAS 0.9 DEGREES
BELOW NORMAL. IT WAS THE COOLEST SUMMER SINCE 2004...AND ONLY THE
SIXTH SUMMER SINCE 1980 WITH AN AVERAGE TEMPERATURE BELOW 80
DEGREES.
FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE THE SUMMER OF 2004...THERE WERE NO TEMPERATURES
AT OR ABOVE 100 DEGREES.
RAINFALL WAS WELL ABOVE NORMAL. IT WAS THE WETTEST SUMMER SINCE
1971...AND THE SIXTH WETTEST SUMMER ON RECORD. 17.48 INCHES OF RAIN
FELL...WHICH WAS 7.29 INCHES ABOVE NORMAL.
RAINFALL RECORDS FOR LITTLE ROCK BEGAN ON MAY 1ST 1878.
THANKS TO A VERY WET JULY...SUMMER 2009 WAS ONE OF THE 10 WETTEST
SUMMERS ON RECORD.
