These two Sabal Palmettos purchased from Gerry McKiness back in '98 have faced many issues in the last 11 years, Subzero temps, snow, ice storms and prolonged cold and wet winters. One in particular had a spear pull 2 years ago and recovered.
This past year hope was given up but now that same palmetto is ready to come back alive. The palms have never had a heat source , just mulch and a throw over during ice storms.
Sabal Palmetto once established MUST be hardier than T.Fortunei because 2 large windmills were killed outright unprotected this past winter. These Sabal didnt even get mulch this past winter. The owner has promised to baby them this winter. We came out of the most prolonged winter on record for (08-09) and are midway into the coolest summer ever on record (09).
