Kevin just sent me these pics he took of the palms that were planted on the Greenway here in Cleveland two years ago. There are 14 palms in all planted in this bed. The first summer they were planted, they were watered every three days or so and after that, they have been on their own. I honestly think they have done real well, considering no supplemental watering has been done. They were fertilized once a season in the spring for the past two years, weeds pulled and dead fronds trimmed. I was able to secure some nice plant tags for them along with reference tags to direct anyone interested in learning more about hardy palms to see www. sepalms.org. There are several folks that were instrumental in helping secure these palms and I would like to thank them again... Rob in Cookeville area, Kevin here in Cleveland, David in Chattanooga, Gary Hollar, and Sean McFall for pitching in and helping get these palms in the ground.
BTW, several of the minors have nice seed stalks for the first time. Honestly, I know S. birminghams are the slowest growing palm known to man, but I really feel the ones in this bed have shown the most growth... I hope to be able to add something to the bed to add some color to it. Thinking about adding some repeat blooming daylilies for this, but anyone have any ideas????
Here is a link to my photobucket folder of the progression of the project...
