Geez Brad , you have an awesome palate to work with.
The home and setting is just beautiful.
Did you bring in a service to landscape?
We have had a crappy cool and wet summer also but everything seems very healthy for you too!
I love the way you didnt jam everything up together. These plants grow in time and need room. Job well done on that Brad!!!
Rock beds around the house very smart indeed!
Mulch and wood is a terrible choice as it draws insects and other undesirables.
I see a few things in your yard that will need to be dug up and brought in if you want to save them.
Its OK to do that , plants cost money and the ones you have planted will overwinter fine indoors..as long as you dont over water and provide above freezing temps and some light source (near a window , etc.etc.)
Those Robustas will have to be kept bone dry of winter moisture and possibly a thickening of wood chip mulch , which will require a covering.
Our climates are very similar and I have no trouble overwinter Robusta but the protection methods are tacky for front yards.
Mine is located at a side yard and this year I will build a wooden frame instead of plastic garbage can barrels. You could easily use the can method since yours are small.
I have never used heat. If you do use heat , turn it off during warming of the day and let the plant have some air flow during sunny and windy conditions to evaporate built up moisture which only freezes at night.
Ive lost a few SMALL robustas however.
I have a new one this year though and its small.
I hope I can get it through.
Your rear deck and yard is awesome Brad. Good WOrk.
Use SEVIN on those bugs during dry weather , it works fine! lol.
Dont forget us with a late summer update because I imagine things should start poppin again real soon in our areas before fall returns. Thanks.
