Yep your Cougar is 9" Ford. 28 spline. 10 bolt. 11.75" oval housing. They are called 9" because that is the size of the ring gear.
An 8.8" it would be approx 10.5" oval cover with 10 bolt.
8.0" rear has 11" oval housing, 10 bolt.
