I've got a '77 XR-7 that has a fit about 10 miles after it gets up to opperating temp. She has a 400/2brl that I rebuild, the timing is dead on at 10 deg BTDC and after about 5 miles of coughing, popping and sputtering she smooths out and runs fine the rest of the day. I bought her a year ago out of a barn were she rested for about 10 years and I have seemed to have worked out all her other querks. None of the local service shops can get past the fact that there is no-were to plug their diagnoustic tools- go figure.
