Wheels & Tires for 79 Cougar

Hello, I ordered shocks (Crown Vic cop car), springs ( front HD + rear variable rate)and bushings (poly) to be installed in a couple of weeks. Now is time to address the tires. I want to use 17X8 or 17X7 wheels and 245 or 255-55R17 tires all around?. What backspacing?. Also curiuos to know max. tires/wheels dimmensions these cars can take?. I really appreciate the help.
