Posted by angus Rust is just a product of moisture and oxygen on ferrous metal. To prevent rust clean of excess with a wire brush and put some moisture barrier between the metal and the elements, like a lite oil, something a bit more greasy than WD40. Vaseline will also do! Other wise dry them really well and store in an air tight container. It's a lot of fuss for a pair of crampons. They were made to be used and abused and a little rust gives some character provided they don't become structurally unsafe! Angus
