Your bold alternative would be to do your summit pitch sometime from about April through to June, when there's still a good dome of hard snow over the top - just make sure you've got bags of insulation, and avoid a night with high winds. Though you could always countersink the tent into the snow (dig in two feet, build a two-foot snow wall) as suggested by Bill Murray in his chapter 'New Year on Ben Nevis' in 'Mountaineering in Scotland' ! Good luck with your ploy anyway.

The top of Nevis is pretty uniformly bouldery, and the boulders are big and angular. I don't remember seeing any open grassy or sandy patches like you can get on Macdui or Braeriach.
