As well as being precipitous the Cuillin are rockier than almost any other Scottish hills, with a lot of rough mobile scree and boulder on the approaches and descents. So a pair of solid boots that can withstand a good deal of bashing and protect your ankles would be highly advisable. I've gone through the toes of two pairs of boots in separate weeks in the Cuillin - tho' admittedly they were already fairly clapped-out before I went!
