But on the basis of earlier returns, 20-25 would be a modest estimate of the annual number of fatalities. 10-15 years ago the figure was regularly over 40. However those figures for "hill deaths" need to be treated with caution, since they include (for instance) a fair proportion - regularly about a quarter - partly or wholly due to coronaries and other prior medical conditions, rather than to accidental causes. And so on.
