We are active members of CCFA on Long island. I kept seeing your picture in the journals and of course sine i am a big General Hospital fan I searched around to see why your picture always popped up. My daughter was diagnosed with Ulcerated Colitis last year at 15. She is an adorable girl and also the only female on the Jericho High School ice hockey team. She got very sick last year for the simple reason that from the time she was diagnosed she never took any of her meds for the simple reason she could not swallow the pills and was afraid to tellus. She was hiding them everywhere for 5 months! As a mother I did not believe she was taking them but everyone kept urging me to leave her alone especially when she said she was taking the pills(even the doctors) Well it got to the point she had to have a blood transfusion....and was hospitalzided for week...This was exactly one year ago..she had to stop playing hockey as you did football. However one year later she is back to her beautiful active self, ( she now swallows all 4 pills at once) is back to playing ice hockey and is very happy and active! I like to tell her story at events because it is so important to take your meds and especially to maker sure children are taking them as I understand her story is not that unusual..many kids say they are taking their medicine and aren't. Follow your gut as a parent....How are you doing with the disease...you cetainly look great! Ilyssa also watches General Hospital, so learning that you have it as well as others, and lead such normal, active lives, is very comforting.
Just wanted to share this story with you because I know how involved you are in dealing with this cause.
Regards,
Barbara
