Wondering,
I'm out of town with family but let me address this one too. What did you want for your dues increase? We got to keep the legal plan. We hadn't had a dues increase in about 6 years prior. How much do you think costs, legal fees, etc... went up during that time? Represenation isn't free, attorney's aren't free, the cost of your insurance went up during that time too. The firefighters in comparable programs pay about $100 a month and they get what they pay for. Why should your representatives have to beg for a meager increase to maintain services when our counterparts understand the need for collective representation and are willing to pay for staff to fulfill these full time jobs. I take most all my vacation, comp, etc... working for the FOP for your and other members benefit. It would be nice to have a full time staff and business managers to represent you like local #42 of the IAFF do but when we have a very tiny dues structure ($36 FOP + $5 LSPOA) nobody understands or thinks they don't get what they pay for. I send the info out all the time as to why the dues increase was needed and what we do for you, did you read any of it? Come ask me and I'll tell you where your dues goes, don't speculate. Like Matt said your dues can only be increased by the membership and in this instance they voted by an 80% margin to approve the increase, hope you were one of them.
Sorry, I'll take a breath now. Driving in the car with the kids all day has me on edge.
