Last week I had the the pleasure of observing the honor, Michael Hawkins recieved at the LETSAC conference, in recieving his award as Missouri 2009 Traffic Officer of the Year. The citation stated outstanding numbers, 206 DWI arrests, over 1000 HMV and able to work 60 crashes in year 2008. He was also responsible for 174 DWI arrest for year 2007.
I have known Michael for many years, and his dedication and enthusiasm towards traffic safety lives up to the expectations of a good unit of guys within the LSPD. Hawk was certainly deserving of this cherished award. Many officers from other Depts. have congratulated him on his acheivement.
One thing I have to comment on, I was not surprized, but very impressed to see Chief Joe P, in attendance at the awards cermony to be their as one of his men was awarded the honor along with Capt. Reaves.
