Sgt. Maj. Manuel Curry served the city of New Orleans for more than six decades and is believed to be the longest serving full-time law enforcement officer in the nation. Curry joined NOPD in 1946 and was in the city's Sixth Police District for more than 63 years.

Police One Article on Sgt. Maj. Curry
I had the opportunity to hear this man speak and shake his hand at the National FOP Conference in New Orleans in 2005 (a few weeks before Katrina hit). I also spoke to officers that worked with him and they couldn't say enough good things about the person he was. He was still actually WORKING THE STREETS and doing the job day to day. Even more amazing he was thrilled to do it and to still go to work every day. We should all be so lucky to have such a long career and still be so enamored of the job.
Rest in Peace Brother.
