I don't think they actually got disintegrated. There've been moments in DBZ where a character got enveloped by an energy wave but managed to survive. What I found strange was, during their fight both Gohan's and Goten's shirts get ripped off and they both look pretty beat up. But, come the next episode, their clothing is intact and they haven't even got a scratch on them.
