Interesting. I see you've been studying Mr Toriyama's changing plotlines. But I think you're mistaken about nobody liking Buu. When my brother and I first saw the Buu saga, we loved him! And I think a lot of the manga fans did too. That's why Toriyama turned him into a good guy. The same goes for Vegeta. Did you know when Toriyama first created Vegeta, he was just going to be another bad guy for Goku to beat? But as the fight between them went on, he got letters from fans saying they liked Vegeta and wanted to see more of him. So Toriyama decided to keep him on as a main character. The same might have happened for Piccolo and 18, but I'm not sure.
