No explanations. I'm just as curious about that myself. In fact, in the actual series, it was implied that Trunks' time jumping altered the time line and made the androids stronger than they were in his time. So technically, not only should 16 be nothing to Trunks or the other senshi, he should be even weaker than his counterpart.
