It is with a really heavy heart that I am letting you know, if you haven't already heard, that Ronald Laney was killed last night, January 30, 2002, at East Bay Raceway, just outside of Tampa, Florida, in a 360 sprint car. He was leading the B main when, from what I have heard, probably something broke on the car and he hit the wall and flipped, and when he came back on the track, was t-boned. This is much the same way that his friend, John Bankston was killed at Eldora. The irony of it all, is that this was one of the preliminary races for the John Bankston Day races.... King of the 360 races... which Ronald won a couple of years ago. John and Ronald were friends, and lived around 40 miles from one another, which is like being next door neighbors in Texas. Ronald is from Humble, Texas and John from Beaumont. They will both be missed more than either could ever imagine.
