I can remember being a kid and there was a group of us kids at the track (Speedway 90 in Beaumont) that all night long we played football down beside the stands. That was until John came out to hot lap or for the heat races and definitely during the features the game was put on hold, I think we would call it the end of a quarter or maybe it was halftime. Regardless of what we called it we were stopping to watch the number 8. We all would argue over who was our 2nd choice, but No. 8 was the one we always wanted to win. After the races we would spend the time in the pits around the 8 car and John was never to busy to give us a shirt or hat and sign it, if he had some new ones from the weeks before. Needless to say it was a time which is ingrained in my memory and part of who I am today. Thank you John for the memories, you are and will be truely missed.
