I have been looking at pictures of John and the one that touch me most was the picture of John and Ronald Laney together. I have followed John and Ronald career for years since I am married to David Nee who has posted pictures on this site. When David and I would go to the World of Outlaw race I would always go to John trailer and talked to him. I always had some kind of cap on and he always gave me a John Bankston white cap to wear instead of the cap I had on. He was and always will be a first class gentleman. My fondest memory of John was in Dallas years ago for the 10,000 race to win. John led all 29 laps until his brakes failed him and he went into the trees. Allen Payne came around and took the checkered flag and the money. I talked to John about two months later and ask him what had happened. I acuse him of going dove hunting in the woods. He just laugh and told me his brakes had failed him.
That also is the race that Ronald placed in the A-main and came around and hit one of stationary tires and was out for the race. All of dirt track
racers and fans lost a geniune loving man who set
an example for racing on dirt. It truly breaks my
heart that John and Ronald are gone but I have nothing but great memories and fun times at the track rooting for the home guys to win the race.
Thank you for creating this site Carol.
