They also had a wreath placed there, and one in the infield, by the flag flying at half staff. There was a special presentation, of people speaking and singing that night. The program lasted about 20 minutes Three sprints slowly circled the track during part of the ceremony to pay tribute to their fellow competitor. There was a sea of people wearing John Bankston T-Shirts. This must have been a really moving experience, with the sun setting in the background, and John's family in the infield. I wish I could have been there. Actually, that isn't true. I wish none of this were necessary.
Please don't think I am being morbid, but I thought that you might be interested in this memorial service for John. Most tracks probably had the moment of silent prayer before the National Anthem. That is all they did here at the Devil's Bowl. But the following is about what they did at John's home track, Speedway 90. This information comes to me from a friend of John's.
