The following day, location unknown
Norman Osborne stalks down the hallway, his anger seething out of him. Months of planning and millions of dollars down the drain, he . as he slams his fist into a steel door. The pain shoots down his arm as one of his knuckles pops audibly. He continues down the hall trying to focus on the pain to center himself. I must maintain my composure, I must...
He throws the door open and walks to his customary spot at the head of the large conference table. He makes sure to meet the gaze of the other assembled villains. Dr. Doom, the Hood, Bruno Mannheim, Namor, Solomon Grundy, the Joker, and many empty seats. Each one betrays a certain impatience with Norman as he takes his time reaching his seat. Except for the Joker who stares off into the corner, giggling like the mad man he is.
"I am glad so many of you could make it on such short notice, but as you know we have a situation."
"Yes it seems your little plan to get SHIELD out of commission has failed," Dr. Doom states bluntly.
"I wouldn't say it was a total failure atleast Tony Stark has been ousted."
"I don't think trading the devil we know for one we don't an be considered a success," Namor states.
"Besides the fact the someone called in a ton of political favors to keep them from being shut down. And we don't even have a clue who has that kind of pull," Mannheim adds.
"Who ever did it showed their hand, now it's only a matter of time," Norman says. "I have already learned who is being named as the new director and the choice is interesting to say the least. I believe we have all heard of Slade Wilson."
"Are you serious," Solomon Grundy rumbles.
"Which begs the question why someone would put him in the position of director and will he be willing to play ball with us," the Hood asks.
"One of us will have to make contact..."
"Or we could just kill him," the Joker adds..."
The next day, Markovia
The assembled honor guard of Justice Leaguers carry the ornately carved wooden casket. Inside lay the body of their fallen teammate Geo Force, a member of Markovia's royal family. Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Hal Jordan, Flash, and Nightwing act as pallbearers. They are trailed by a procession of other teammates and Markovian dignitaries, each wearing a black sash with a white flower in it.
The silence of the solemn moment is broken by the approach of a pair of helicopters. The helicopters are all black and they bank around the crowd before coming to rest on the far side of the cemetery. The door of one of them opens up and out walks Slade Wilson flanked by a pair of men in long black trench coats.
"You son of a," Roy Harper begins, pushing past everyone to advance towards the men. "I will kill you right here for what you've done."
"What I did was settle two vendettas with one arrow," Slade answers continuing to walk forward. "Now if you would excuse me, I would like to pay my last respects to a fallen adversary."
By this point, Green Lantern has used his ring to hold the casket while the other have started forward to restrain Arsenal. Slade and his men stop at the foot of the grave and lays a small wreath on the ground.
"Tell your men to leave, I think we'll be making your traveling arrangements," Batman begins as he stalks towards the assassin.
"As mush as I'm sure you'd enjoy that, it is impossible. I need to get back to New York. I'm afraid I have work in the morning."
"You're not going anywhere," Superman says joining Batman. Superman comes to a sudden stop and grits his teeth in pain.
"I seem to have remembered to wear my kryptonite cufflinks. And if any of the rest of you have any ideas I strongly suggest you reconsider."
"I think you should take a look around..." Wonder Woman begins.
"I wasn't finished. If any of you would have bothered to watch the news this morning, you would know that as of 9 a.m. this morning I am the new director of SHIELD. I don't think the president would take to kindly to a group of vigilantes attacking a public servant."
"I don't know how you managed to..."
"That's right you don't know…”
