Throughout the whole disgusting thing, Capt. Cold just keeps chuckling. He strolls in, barking orders to the terrified crowd like any supervillain, but then… then he switches gears. He approaches the first display, a statue of Barry Allen from his prime, and freezes the whole thing with his Absolute Zero gun. Then he steps aside as one of his henchmen shatters the whole thing with his baseball bat. They move on to the next display—Barry’s costume and ring—and repeated the process like some sort of assembly line. Capt. Cold freezes it, and then someone else smashes it. Years and years of history destroyed before my very eyes.
Cold approaches Jay Garrick’s original helmet, grin slithering across his face. I need to do something. I look over to Ralph. Ralph Dibny, Spirit Detective, gives me a thumbs up. And like that, his body becomes bewildered and confused, along with his girlfriend—Sue and Ralph have skipped bodies. The familiar thud of baseball bats against skulls tips me off—they’ve possessed two of Cold’s henchmen, and knocked the other two unconscious. I lean out from around the corner and watch them reach into their coats and pull out their pistols.
“Freeze, Cap’n! You… you like that? Freeze?” One of the henchmen looks to the other, barely containing his laughter.
“It was a little obvious, but it’s good that you’re trying.”
“Aww, c’mon, ba—“
“I thought your deaths’d mean I’d be done with you, Dibnys.” Cold slumps his shoulders and shakes his head.
“Are we… are we really that obvious?” ‘Ralph’ darts his head back and forth. It’s hard not to picture him as made of rubber, his movements are so exaggerated.
“There’s no hiding who we are, Ralphie. Now with your… unique wit.” Now it’s ‘Sue’ who is barely containing her laughter. I shudder at the way Cold’s Henchman utters the word “Ralphie,” his voice like gravel and coffee, but full of a weird sort of affection.
In a flash, Cold has pulled out his other Zero pistol and has frozen the ‘Dibnys’’ hands to their pistols. And in another instant, his henchmen begin swearing and shouting. Now’s my chance. I charge out into the main hallway and smash the display of Capt. Boomerang’s boomerangs. Cold and his goons turn to me just in time to watch the boomerangs strike his goons between the eyes, knocking them out cold.
“Spirit, how are you?” Capt. Cold asks. “I must admit, I’m surprised to see you, but hey, it works perfectly for me. Just one more piece of his legacy to destroy.” That’s all I need to hear. I shake myself loose as I walk over to him. He twirls his pistols, that sickening grin still on his face. I’m happy it’s there, honestly—something else for me to knock off his face.
