Queen Industries
Oliver Queen guides the motorcycle into the parking lot of his building, looking up at the massive skyscraper. There are no lights beyond the normal night time lighting. Be that as it may, Ollie can feel eyes upon him as he puts down the kickstand. The sweat rolls down Oliver’s forehead even though the wind blows cold. He makes his way to across the lot with no attempt at stealth, Slade knew he was here. He walks up to a small side entrance and types in his passcode. The door clicks unlocked and Oliver enters.
The service entry hallway is empty and dimly lit by night time illumination. Oliver puts an arrow to his bow and notices a slight twitch to his hand. Oliver stares in shock, willing the hand to stop trembling and feeling it fight him. Finally through supreme force of will it stops but he continues to sweat. Slade’s got me all worked up, I need to slow it down.
Ollie makes his way to a small service elevator and pushes the button for the floor just below his office. During the ride up, Oliver contemplates the best way to proceed but the truth of the situation is over whelming. Slade obviously knows I’m here, it doesn’t matter how I approach he thinks. He has compromised the entire security system or this place would be crawling with police by now. I might as well save time and just go straight up he thinks as he pushes the next button.
The elevator makes the short trip up one more flight and the doors open into a dimly lit grand hall. Oliver had devised this floor to intimidate anyone coming to do business with him. The arched ceilings on this floor are almost ten feet and the floor is the most expensive blackest marble Ollie could find. Even the light fixtures are hand blown pieces of glass artwork. But now in the dim light under these circumstances the surroundings take on a sinister aspect for the man who designed them.
Oliver makes his way down the hall and to the door to his secretary’s office. He had intentionally segregated his office behind an extra set of doors for added security. His private secretary Marcia’s office was a giant waiting room filled with multiple surveillance and other security counter measures. The door to her office opens with a touch from his thumb print on the ID scanner.
The office is in much the same condition as when Oliver had left a few hours ago but that does little to ease Oliver’s mounting fear. His eyes dart about the room looking at all of the hot points for his security cameras. He makes his way across the room slowly, avoiding the other security measures as best as he can. A bead of sweat rolls down his forehead and into his eye causing it to sting.
“I assure you I will do nothing to prevent you from arriving at our arranged appointment,” Slade’s voice purrs over the office intercom. Without even thinking, Ollie’s arrow splinters the small box on the desk into pieces. Ollie turns as the door to his office opens slowly…
Then…
Oliver slowly stalks into his office, the twitch in his arm starting to return. The only light in here is from the windows were moonlight filters it’s way in. Of Slade there is no sign but Oliver can feel his malevolent gaze boring into him from somewhere. Nothing in the room appears to have been moved except for his chair that is turned just slightly from were it was when he left.
“So good to see you again Oliver, I hope you don’t mind waiting another minute or two.”
“Just show yourself already,” Ollie yells as a large bead of sweat runs down his forehead.
“Is the suspense killing you Mr. Queen? It it making your pulse race as it pounds so hard you can feel the throb in your ears? Is that little twitch I see the growing anticipation or is it your fear of the inevitable conclusion…”
“Just get on with it!”
“I’m not sure that you are ready, maybe we should play these little cat and mouse games…” Oliver hears the turn of the door know before the sentence comes to an end and he spins on his heels. The arrow leaves his bow before the door is open more than a crack. The arrow slams into Geo’s chest and he falls back into the hallway without a sound. Oliver drops his bow as he runs to were his friend lay.
“No no no no,” Ollie screams as he reaches Brion. Oliver immediately recognizes a kill shot, in a gap between ribs with a slight up angle and into the heart. Brion’s eyes stare up at Ollie but there is no one there. He barely feels the blade as it comes to rest on his shoulder and the tip at his jugular.
“Touching,” Slade says as he hits Ollie right on his spine with a well placed kick. Pain shoots through Oliver’s every limb as he slumps to the floor unable to move. “Let me assure you that I admire your courage for coming here alone bit I must also tell you that you stood no chance what so ever. You see both you and your friend there were important experiment that I was conducting and it appears both were a success.”
“Geo was given a compound that suppresses metahuman abilities and judging from his current state…” Slade pauses as Oliver tries to rise but finds his limbs feel like lead. “You were given a compound that would have both psychological and physical effects, starting with a feeling of paranoia and enhanced physical reactions to stimuli. That might explain you sweating problem and that little shake you’ve had.”
“Just go ahead and finish it…”
“No, not until I am done with you. The true beauty in the drug I gave you was in the delivery, piece by piece. The mask I sent you, the piece of my uniform you found, the tracking device I returned to you, and the final piece on the chair at the chemical plant. Each component by itself was harmless and virtually undetectable, but together…”
“I never took you for a coward.”
“Your attempts to anger me are amusing, I’m not done. I want to thank you for all of the valuable information I was able to receive from your systems. It is amazing what can be done when you have Oliver Queen's DNA,” Slade says as a small figure steps from behind him. The last thing Oliver Queen sees before darkness and pains takes him is a small boy that looks as if he’s staring into a mirror…
Epilogue
“Why didn’t you kill him,” Gavin asks as the two of them sit on the private jet. After the confrontation at Queen Industries, the pair had returned home and packed their belongings. Once they had everything out of the house, Slade had started a well planned fire that left no evidence behind. They had spent the night at a small hotel near the Star City airport before boarding the small plane about 15 minutes ago.
“Because I will make Oliver Queen suffer before I kill him. Him killing Geo was only the beginning of the torment I have in mind for him. He will be out of commission for a long long time. And I want him to know all of the fruit that the information from his servers bear.”
“Are you sure that geo is dead, didn’t the file say that he had some sort of regenerative powers?”
“It is possible that the serum will wear off and his powers will return. But for the time being we have a new target to consider,” Slade says sliding a folder over to the boy. The boy looks it over quickly, his face a mask of concentration as he absorbs the information.
“He doesn’t seem like much of a challenge, although the location will be difficult.”
“A wise assessment and that is what I have someone scouting for us. We will have one day of final preparations before we have make the sanction.”
“Will I be having a more active role this time,” the boy asks.
“I am not sure but I think we can find you some sort of diversion in New York City…”
