----------Apartment of Sandi Brandenberg, and Main Offices of The Agency, 12:51PM----------
"Gooood morning beautiful!" The self anointed Alex Hayden exclaims as he bursts through the front of Sandi Brandenberg's apartment with a hop in his step and a smile on his horrifically scarred face.
"What do you mean good morning!?!" The usually even-tempered Brandenberg questions with disbelief while rising from her seat and storming toward the mercenary. "It's nearly one o'clock! You're five hours late!" She shouts while forcing her pointer finger into his face.
"Hey, I came over as soon as I woke up," Hayden says in an attempt to justify his tardiness. "Oh, and since I was in such a hurry I didn't get a chance to eat breakfast, so, you wouldn't happen to have an extra toaster pastry lying around."
"NO!" Sandi screams, appalled by her business partners lack of tact.
"Fine I'll eat a Pop-Tart," Alex retorts with genuine disgust, "but I won't enjoy it."
"I don't have Pop-Tarts either Alex, you see, in order to buy goods and services you need money, you know that green paper stuff!" She shouts while turning away from the mercenary and stampeding back to her desk. "And since you haven't been hired in nearly a month, and you show up for work five hours late, we've run into a wee bit of a cash flow problem."
"Don't blame me," Hayden retorts defensively, "I'm just another victim of the economy. People don't have the disposable income for cars, or movies, or murders for hire." Sandi drops her head into her hands, already defeated by Hayden's idiocy. "But don't worry, I'm pretty sure there was something in the President's stimulus package for small business' like ours."
"Please Alex," Sandi pleads while looking to him with downtrodden puppy dog eyes, "Be serious for a minute. I need you to take a hard stance on this."
"That's what she said!" Hayden snaps back, extremely proud of himself. But his joy is short lived and his prideful chest sinks as he sees the depression in Brandenberg's eyes. Sandi is one of only a handful of people in this World that Alex can truly call his friend, and the sadness in her eyes hurts him far more than any gun or knife ever could. "I'll do whatever you need me to."
Her spirits seem to perk up slightly as she responds, "We need to get our name out there again, create some buzz for The Agency."
"How about we take out an ad in Redbook?" Alex asks.
"I don't really think Redbook readers are our core market," Sandi answers sarcastically.
"I read Redbook," Hayden responds, injured by his partners lack of interest. "In fact you enjoyed their quiche recipe Wednesday night."
"That not withstanding, the answer is still no."
As Sandi finishes speaking the front door swings open once again and Inez Temple, the mutant known as Outlaw enters, carrying a handful of hotdogs from the vendor outside in her superhumanly strong hands. Outlaw is the Third full-time member of the three person Agency, and Alex Hayden's girlfriend.
"Ah charmed the hot dog fella and got us some lunch," Outlaw declares through her thick Texas drawl. "Ah know street food is suppose t' be nasty, but I just love the way his hot dogs taste."
"That's what she said!" Alex shouts with glee while spinning toward his girlfriend. He turns just in time to see her pull the trigger of her revolver blowing the back of his head all over Sandi's living room wall.
"Sorry bout the blood sweetie," Inez apologizes to Sandi while holstering her weapon, "But you don't know how many times ah had t' hear that last night, and I find it best t' put my foot down right away. If ya give Alex an inch he'll take a mile."
"I can't blame you," Brandenberg states as she moves toward the kitchen to fetch a paper towel. "That must be one of the perks of dating a man who can heal from any wound."
----------Twenty Minutes Later----------
"Totally worth it," Alex mutters to himself as he fights through the ringing in his now fully healed head and rises from the floor.
"Inez and I were just talking about our marketing problem," Sandi says while helping him to his feet, "and we both think it's time to go back to the way it all began."
"Meaning...?"
"Meaning you need to take it to the streets, find some desperate people who need our help and generate some buzz around our name," Brandenberg responds to Alex's dismay.
"I still like the Redbook idea."
