Prologue
--------------------
I am a great and powerful King. I rule my land with an iron fist, and my subjects have grown to love me for it. Once a war-torn, desolate land, Kahndaq has slowly returned to its glory under my rule. The former ruler, Asim Muhunnad, lived for power and money. He did not care for the people of this country, and so I took it upon myself to free the people of this wonderful land. I killed Muhunnad with my bare hands and claimed the thrown for myself.
Shortly after that time, I came to know the most beautiful woman I have ever laid my eyes on. Her name was Adrianna Tomaz. She was able to do something that no one has ever accomplished before. Adrianna made me feel human. Through her guidance, I brought Kahndaq into the greatest time of peace it has ever witnessed. As repayment to her, I granted a portion of my powers to her. She became a God at my side; my Isis.
Together, we were untouchable. The people of Kahndaq grew to love me through her gentle touch and I too became comfortable with life. Everything was so perfect with Isis.
I realize now that through peace of mind and blinding love, I became something far worse than I was before. I grew weak. When Bialya, a neighboring country, attacked my lands, I caught defenseless and overpowered. Their champions, the four horsemen crushed my empire with plagues and acid rains. My wife, my Isis, she was caught in the storm and died a horrible death. It was devastating, but also very liberating. With her gone, I was free to act on the terrible things that I longed for. Without peace and its queen, Kahndaq was no longer a glorious country.
Letting my rage control my actions, I destroyed the four horsemen and got my revenge on Bialya. Their armies and their people were so easy to kill. It was almost unsatisfying.
I return to my country a renewed man. Gone are the days of serenity and kindness. I will not allow myself to become weak again. All that remains is my land. I will not allow what happened before to happen again. I will do whatever it takes to keep this country safe. These lands will be ruled with the power and strength that it needs. I’ve lost most of my subjects, my brother, and my wife. All that I have left is Kahndaq. Gods help those who try and take it from me.

Shiruta, the Capital City of Kahndaq
-----------------------------------------------------
Orran, one of my many subjects rushes into my thrown room, gasping for air to refill his exhausted lungs. Without moving or giving him any sign of concern, I request immediate attention, “What is it boy? Why do you approach your king with such urgency?”
“My lord,” the boy begins. “A man has appeared over our city, floating through the air, heading towards the capital.”
I raise only my eyebrow at the news, “Can you describe this flying man?”
“He bares a black and gold costume, bright pink skin, and covers himself in a golden light.”
The description is vague, but contains enough details for me to figure out who has invaded my country. Only one man that I’ve ever met fits such a description; Sinestro.
With sudden and great force, the ceiling to my thrown caves in around me, causing Orran to run once more, from the room. I hold my position and manage a half smile at the glowing alien who floats before me, “Bravo. What a grand entrance, Sinestro.”
I make sure that the sarcasm in my voice is thick and obvious, "Where is your army? I'm sure you don’t travel alone these days. Not with your very own Corps.”
"Subtlety is one of my better skills, Adam." Sinestro returns my sarcasm as his feet landed softly on the marble floor below him. Pulling his hands up to his face he stroks his mustache before speaking to me once more. "I'm a leader now, Adam, much like you. You've created your kingdom here in Kahndaq and I have to say it's rather nice, but what is a piece of land when you can have power in your hands and the stars beneath your feet? You have nothing, and ARE nothing, compared to me. You have the ability to instill great fear, Black Adam."
I rise to my feet and take several steps toward Sinestro. My actions are purposely slow and I do not allow my eyes to wander. I glare at Sinestro and show him that I am not in any way amused by his attempt at scaring me. He has invaded my country, disturbed my peace, and insulted my authority. I am going to make his pain and suffering last for an eternity, "That’s your plan to recruit me? By insulting me? What would I do with a sector of the Galaxy!? This is MY LAND! It is all that I need you sniveling miscreant!"
Raising my fists above my head, I smash the ground beneath me and because a rift that runs along the ground to where Sinestro stands, "You insult me Sinestro. How dare you come to me and demand my power, by yourself, none the less!"
"You think me a fool, Adam? I have allies to call upon." Sinestro takes a step back, and brings his ring to life with a brilliant golden glow, "You're coming either way. Force is only a secondary option. I'd much rather you come peacefully. You would be unrivaled, and your power unmatched. You're too blinded with pride to see your own potential."
Sinestro is right; I have spent most of my life instilling fear in those who stood in my way. He doesn’t back down from attack, instead a smirk creeps onto his face. I’m certain now that he is the true God of fear. It is Sinestro’s greatest strength and he has become incredibly powerful with it through years of fighting the Green Lanters, “What are you trying to achieve?”
"Power... Power beyond imagination. I have a plan, Adam, as always. My recruitment is only the beginning. Join us and you will understand."
Before I can respond, a second Yellow Lantern appears. He appears completely tame, not having come for a fight. The larger man simply stares at me, with his eyes starring straight into mine, "Adam, I would like you to meet Horku.”
Sinestro pulls his arm up, conjuring a sharp, knife-like object from his ring and slays the alien being before me. Shocked, I take a step back and try to comprehend what he had just done. Is this some crazy attempt to scare me into joining?
"You, Black Adam, are going to inherit this ring and become the corps member of Space Sector 2..."
The ring rises from the ground, sliding off its dead owner, and begins to circle the room, “Yellow Lantern Ring 23: Scanning for compatible new bearer.”
It doesn’t take long before it begins to swirl around me, essentially begging me to accept it as a part of myself, “Confirm: New compatible bearer found. Subject: Black Adam.”
Swatting at it, as if it were a fly, I return my attention to the grinning devil across from my thrown. I give him no amount of satisfaction in knowing that I am considering his offer. Instead, I tighten my fists, and step toward him, “You’ve come into my country unannounced, broken into my thrown room, and slain an alien life form on my sacred grounds. If you think for one second that these acts will go unpunished, you are terribly wrong Sinestro.”
He grins from ear to ear, as if he had expected this the entire time, “Fine. The hard way it is Black Adam. But I must warn you, I am not so easily beaten. You can just run through me like a brick wall and discard me like you do the sniveling countries that border your territory. I am far more powerful than you could ever imagine!”
I return a grin of my own, “Very well Sinestro. Let’s see what you’re truly made of.” I look to the skies and close my eyes. The air in the room grows thick before I start to feel the tingle of static rush over my skin. I return my gaze to Sinestro and utter the one word that has invoked fear in men stronger than him, “SHAZAM!”
