I married early, to a man who was an alien to the place he called home. An alien who claimed the throne of his homeland and I became his... Queen.
Queen a moniker of distinction or a curse?
My husband had made many enemies in his time as a member of the Justice League but when he wore the crown of Atlantis.... well things didn't become prosperous for us or our citizens. Arthur became engrossed within the crown and the duties of the King. Many surface dwellers tried to exact their revenge on Aquaman but my husband is a warrior.
For a short time I had found true happiness; I gave birth to our son, Prince and heir to the throne of Atlantis and the joy of my life...
Mera looks up at the small congregation of marine animals that are attracted by her aura. She manipulates her hands and forms a portrait of her son within the very molecules of the ocean water.
A tear forms and just as the ocean current pulls the tear from her face so does it claim the water portrait. She reaches out to touch it, but the current pulls it from her grasp- just the way Black Manta and Orn had kept him from her grasp. The ocean's current deforms the portrait and vanishes in the deep blue.
She closes her eyes and sobs with her head down- for a moment she appears to play the role of the helpless, distraught maiden.
Her fists clinch and her body trembles! Her eyes open with rage and she screams...
"NNNOOOOOOOOOO!!!'
Her anger is centered upwards to the surface world. Without thinking, she telekinetically creates a large, powerful geyser that forces the ocean upwards...
The marine animals back away and she is again..... alone.
Who am I kidding? I'm an alien to this world too. I tried to bury my pain in this world...
Tried to forget about home...
My son helped me forget and I probably would have forgotten forever if it were not for this world...
This place...
My adoptive world.
Mera continues her thought and dreams of what it could have been here...
She looks behind, over her shoulder. The lights from within the city of Atlantis dimly illuminate the ocean floor.
She turns and faces the open ocean in front of her and wonders if she has the courage to truly be.... ALONE..
