It was a quiet afternoon at the Kaplan residence. Billy was just settling in as the newest member of the JLA. There were a few members lingering around but Billy couldn’t help but feel restless.
“I need to get some air.” Wiccan reported to J’onn.
The Martian Manhunter noticed the youth’s body language was tense.
“Take your time William, I will contact you if your assistance is needed.”
Billy breathed a sigh of relief. He was finally able to crack a smile. “Thank you sir, I just need to clear my head and I’ll be right back."
Billy mumbled some words under his breath and vanished into thin air. Seconds later he reappeared in the middle of Time Square. The roaring traffic and shuffling of feet, the symphony of taxi cab horns and the scent of corner hot dog stands was just what he needed. Dressed in civilian designer clothes he finally felt comfortable.
“Time Square! Just what I needed to clear my head. The silence back at the headquarters was driving me insane!”
As he paraded by the endless display windows he came across a row of flat screen Tvs and a familiar image plastered on each one. Billy stopped in his tracks.
“Teddy????”
The monitors displayed his friend Hulking atop the Empire State building battling Skrulls. It was a scene straight out of King Kong. Without a second thought Wiccan teleported to the exact location.
“Teddy!!! Where are you!!???”
To his surprise, the roof top was empty. Until a cloud of smoke appeared across the observatory. Two figures emerged from the mist.
“Bravo! Bravo! Excellent performance young man. You were right on cue. Please do take a bow.”
Instantly Billy’s torso bent over and his arms waved in a very “Broadway” gesture. The Purple Man laughed with excitement at his new pawn. He turned his attention towards the other figure wallowing in the mist.
“Come come, now Daniel, you also deserve a round of applause for your wonderful work. Please Wiccan give him a big hand for creating the illusion that brought you to us….the one and only…well, actually second…MYSTERIO!!! Daniel Berkhart!!
Billy’s hands clapped furiously as Mysterio was also forced to take a bow.
“Now! It’s time for the main act!
The magician vs. The Illusionist!!!! To the death!!!!”
To be concluded in battle!
