Crime Square…Prologue pt 1.5
Growing up with what would seem to be a suicide go to life, Cal McDonald has struggled to organize life and crime to keep his sanity. His stint as a police officer was halted with his excessive use of illegal drugs. Within his struggle, he has made company with ghouls to help him solve cases. His graphic portrayal of life is that of a madman trapped in the center of Manhattan.
Armed with his “friends” (ghouls and cocaine) Cal will need to step up his ability to think straight, and make the right decision. Will he let the drug use and paranormal activity rule his life?
“PAYBACK for all the things I’ve done in my past.”
“PAYBACK for everything, there are no take-backs.”
It was a tough year for all of us. After the execution of Ted Bundy cops nationwide were somewhat happy. What wasn’t caught by the media was the sudden onset of demons and hell like monsters, a huge surge in the population of the supernatural. I guess the wrong people knew about it. Hollywood did its part of slapping us in the face with their release of Ghostbusters 2…Nobody was laughing though, especially Cal McDonald.
1989…
“Car 166, respond to 14334 E. 155th apt. 33 on report of shots fired.”
Nick O’Riley was new on the force. First month out of the academy. Lucky for him he was paired with Cal McDonald, whose own history of the department was both short and full of hate.
“Ok kid, move this thing.” Cal glanced at him.
“Yes sir.” Nick said back in such a voice, you could almost taste the fear.
“Did you just call me sir?” Cal said in shock.
“Yes?” Nick cowered.
“Don’t ever do that sh!t again.” Cal seemed more than pissed about the incident.
“Right around this next corner, slow down.”
“Car 166 to dispatch we’ll be on scene.” Cal covered the radio.
“Ok kid, you take the left side. Try not to get yourself fu*$ing killed ok?”
“Yeah…” Nick nervously voiced.
As the two receded to the front of the apartment, commotion could be heard from inside the building. Sounds of screaming, and some sort of hissing. Cal looked at the front door. A little girl was exiting the building with such a look of fear. Dirty, and blood all over her she approached the short stoop to the edge of the walk.
“Where is she!!!!!” From inside the building a satanic like sang out.
“Hey! Run over here! Come on! Hurry up!” Cal shouted to the girl.
The girl turned to him and just stared.
“Get over here!”
The girl didn’t move. Soon after, the clouds rapidly turned the sky to black. Automatic gun fire rang out at the two helpless cops. Nick and Cal returned fire into the blind scene.
“Jesus Christ Nick get behind something!”
Cal felt the ever so familiar burn of hot lead tear through his body like a hot knife through a stick of butter. He had been hit in the shoulder.
“SH!T, I’m hit.” Cal screamed.
At the doorway the beast stood. Wings flapping, and some sort of blue liquid spilling from its mouth. The demon stood 10 feet tall with wings that of a pterodactyl’s. He then looked down and formed a circle of fire, wrapping the girl in it. The demon laughed, as if proud of what he had done.
Cal watched from behind a nearby dumpster. The demon stepped slowly toward the street. Nick, tucked behind a wall of trashcans struggled to load his clips. His hands shaking to push the .45 caliber bullets into there neatly kept walls of the clip. The demon lurked closer. The demon leaped toward Nick.
GET OUT OF THERE!
Just as Nick leaped up to fire, the demon struck him in the face and stabbed his eyes through his head. Lifting his lifeless body above the street.
“Feel my pain!” The demon shrieked. Throwing Nick’s body to the curb.
The girl lay crying.
“You son of a b!@ch!” Cal stood up blasting shots at the demon but failing to keep site of the monster. His shoulder tearing in pain…
The demon grabbed the girl, and leaped to the top of the apartment building. Holding her out, and dropping her to the pavement. He then made eye contact with Cal, laying helpless on the street.
“In time you will know!!!” The demon vanished while laughing.

Back at the station.
“I want you to take as much time off as needed Cal. I mean it.”
“I just want to catch this bastard that took Nick.” Cal shifted his head in dismay
“Any news on the other girl?”
“No. Nothing yet.” Detective Davis said sorrowfully.
“Go home Cal, I’ll keep you posted.”
Cal went back to his apartment for some much needed rest. He still needed to suture himself up from the bullet wound, nothing a fat line of smack and a few chugs of Beam couldn’t fix…
