----The Next Day//New York; Young Avengers Hideout----
“So, what’s this meeting about?” Eli asked, looking at Billy and Hulkling. Next to him, sat the raven haired Katherine Bishop. To her right, Cassie Lang and Jonas occupied the rest of the couch, leaving Speed to sit alone in a chair. Across from all of them, Billy and Teddy stood with anxious expression on the dark haired male’s face.
“You okay? You don’t look so hot,” Cassie inquired, worry showing on her face.
“Somebody do something to you, little bro?” Tommy added, looking at Teddy, “Do I have to beat up your boyfriend?”
“No, that’s not even close,” Billy chuckled a bit, a little touched by the offer. No-one was sure which of the two was the older twin, but Tommy always acted like it was him. It was a nice feeling that they were acting like brothers, he’d hoped that this new found relationship wouldn’t end with the news he was about to reveal.
“I have some news I actually want to share with you guys, not sure if it’s going to be good or bad,” he took a deep breath before deciding to continue stalling, “As you all know, I’ve been experiencing some problems with my powers lately,” he paused once more, “so I went to seek out help from a fellow magic users, namely, Zatanna.”
“Was there a problem?” the Vision interjected, as the others looked on for an answer.
“No, actually, it was a simple fix. I’ve gotten better with my abilities, though I’m still improving,” he answered, “But, that’s not what I wanted to say. The real reason I called you all for this meeting is,” he took one final breath before mentally telling himself that he needed to stop buying time, “I was offered a spot amongst the Justice League.”
As expected, there was a mixed reaction. Some of them were excited for him, others realized just what that meant right away, that he would be leaving their team. While he wasn’t particularly ready to deal with the backlash this news might get him, he did know he felt a lot better after saying it out loud; it was like a weight lifted off his shoulders.
“That’s great. So, when do you leave the team?” Patriot cut right to the point, “Our team” he felt the need to clarify.
“Come one, it’s not like that,” Speed jumped to his brother’s defense, “that’s what we’re here for right? To find a place amongst the heavy hitters?”
“Yes, but we’re supposed to reach that level together, as a team. The original Hawkeye told me himself that he people didn’t believe in the Avegners way back when, but now their team is renowned one because they stood united.”
“All teams get line up changes, I don’t really think this should be an issue. He got his pass to play with the big guns sooner than we did, we should be happy for him!”
“We’re not saying that we’re not happy for him! I just don’t think he should leave us, we’re supposed to be in this together. Besides, his parents barely let him on the YA, no way they’d let him join up with the League.”
“Guys, I really don’t see the big deal, I think it’s a wonderful opportunity, and I don’t understand where all of these ill-feelings are coming from,” Billy interjected, “And my parents are fine with it, as long as I still do well in school,” he shot back at Eli.
“I think we should let him go, if his destiny is intertwined with ours, then our paths will cross once more,” Jonas replied with great wisdom.
“Look, Billy,” Kate took a deep breath, hoping not to sound as angry or hurt as she really was, “I understand what you’re saying, but I can’t help but feel a little like you stabbed us in the back …” her words trailed off, she began to notice that her attempt at subtly was not what she had hoped it would be. Good job, Kate! she mentally scolded herself, along with a couple wicked glances from the rest of the Young Avengers all gathered here today.
“Heh,” Teddy scoffed uneasily, unsure abut how he should go about mending this situation. All of his friends stood divided in turn of recent events, leaving him in the most uncomfortable in positions.
“I vote he goes,” Theodore decided it was best to bring this to a close, “All in favor?” he asked as he raised his hand.
Stature, Jonas, Speed, and Billy also raised their arms, leaving Eli and Kate the only two opposed to the idea.
“Then I guessed it’s settled,” Hawkeye smiled, “I wish you the best.”
