Ben Grimm is sitting at his bedside, hunched over, resting on his hands. He cannot sleep due to his excitement and anxiousness of the day which lies ahead of him.

Ben: (to himself) Today's the big day Benny boy. The day you put your training to the test.

His memory then flashes back two days. Ben is walking around New York City, wandering aimlessly with his girlfriend Linda. He had been away for a month on another job for the Pentagon, and he really wanted to talk to her about their future.
Linda: What's on your mind Ben?

Ben: (daydream interupted) Huh? Oh... Nothing hun. Its jus' really nice to be home again. I may have only been over der for a month, but to me it felt like a year witout seein' that pretty lil face o' yours.

Linda: (grinning from ear to ear) Ben, stop it! You're makin' me blush.

Ben: Alright, alright. Babe,(He takes her hand) as you know I wanted to talk to you about our future, and uh... (he rummages in his pocket for the ring)I was thinkin'... umm...

Linda:(hastely interupts and answers) Yes Ben! I do!

Ben: Really Linda? (she nods) Wow! You've made me da happiest man alive!

The two then embrace for a long moment. Both getting lost in each other's eyes. When the two go in for long passionate meeting of the lips, Ben's cell phone rings. He takes out his phone and notices that its his old roommate, Reed Richards.

Ben: I'm sorry babe, I gotta grab this.

Linda:(jokingly) Only if it isn't the Pentagon.

Ben: Hello?

Reed: Hello Ben? That you?

Ben: Loud and clear, Brain. How the hell have ya been?

Reed: Can't complain. But Ben, the reason why I'm calling is for a favor, or to put it better, for you to keep your promise. Can you meet me in my laboratory downtown?

Ben: Sure but can it wait an hour? Kinda wanna spend time with my new fiance.

Reed: You? Fiance?! Well congrats to the two of you, and I'll see you in an hour.

Ben: (he hangs up, then puts his arm around Linda) C'mon babe let's go home.

Ben arrives at his old roommate's lab, ten minutes late. His excuse was his car could never start. The lab Reed told him to go to looked more like a silo than a lab. Several stories high, grey and dull looking with no windows to add to its "appealing" appearance. He approached the security gate surronding Reed's facility, where he came to the security guards.

Guard: Name?

Ben: Benjamin Grimm. Dr. Richards told me to meet 'em here.

Guard: I'll let Dr. Richards that you're on your way. (The guard opens the gate and Ben drives through)

Ben enters to find that his hunch of the lab being a silo was correct. There was a rocket ship standing right in the middle of the building. Reed was sitting at his desk going over the specifics and diagnostic tests for the ship. Reed then looks up to see Ben admiring his work.

Reed: Late as usualy, eh Ben? Let me guess, car trouble? How do you like the ship? The ship that you'll be piloting!
