Marc Spector was a killer then he became a hero. He began dealing vengeance in the name of his lord Khonshu, the God of Vengeance and God of the Moon. But that was before he lost himself. In an alley in the rain he crossed a line. He killed an evil man. Bushman. Still recovering from injuries suffered in that battle two years ago and haunted by visions that may be a God or a mad ghost of his past Marc Spector is Moon Knight once more. Now Marc Specter endlessly scours the night, searching for evil. His body and very identity shattered from his service to Khonshu, who controls his life...and just may bring about his death.
-New York City- Moon Knight made his way along the rooftops, his wounds bleeding had decreased. His earpiece connect wit Jean Paul was still nothing but static so he switched frequencies and made contact with Fury. “Crimson Path Cell located.” “I expected to hear this some time ago.” Fury’s gruff voice answered through the earpiece. “What took you so long?” “There was unexpected heightened levels of resistance.” Moon Knight dropped from one rooftop to the next. His breath deepened as the pain shot through his mid section. “You’re mobile on foot? Where’s your Mooncopter?” Fury’s tone indicated the sarcasm he held for gadgetry naming and maybe just a little poke t Moon Knight’s constant comparison to Batman in the hero circles. “Lost mobile contact with my pilot. No visual either.” Moon Knight stopped just short of another drop off before shooting his grapple from his modified truncheon. Normally he would have just leapt mid stride. This time he took a breath, secured the line then swung across, while bracing himself for the landing. “Stand by.” Fury turned to the agent beside him and ordered him to track the location of the vehicle. As soon as he got the response he relayed it to Marc. “Its stationary. Powered down at Shadowkeep.” “Copy that. I’m only a few miles from there as the crow flies.” Marc gasped as the pain in his arm flared up as he had to shift grip on the line as he dropped to another rooftop. “You don’t sound so good soldier. You need a medical lift?” From the little he had worked with Moon Knight Fury already knew the answer. “No. I’ll be fine on my own.” Moon Knight crouched on a fire escape to catch his breath as he switched the frequency back to his primary one. “…Marc..” Moon Knight’s attention focused on the weak voice that reached his ear. “Frenchie?” “…thank God. I thought I was…going to…die alone…” Marc heard the raspy breath and a gurgling sound with each one taken. He knew Jean Paul was seriously injured. His eyes snapped up, scanning the skyline until he located Shadowkeep in the distance. Fury’s evac or even reaching a safe house for transport would take longer than more readily available public transport. Moon Knight dove from the fire escape, the line from his truncheon catching the railing across the street on another, arcing him down and over. The transition from near free fall to the back of the street motor cycle that was passing beneath him With no care he tossed the rider to the street and wrenched back on the accelerator flipping the front tire up into a wheelie as he sped through the streets toward Shadowkeep. “Stay with me Jean Paul. I’m only a few minutes out.” “…I can see a light Marc…” The coughs racked between nearly every word. “…but its not white Marc…” Moon Knight weaved through traffic the lights of the cars wre nothing but tracers as he passed. Shadowkeep loomed in the air seemingly so far away. “I’ve got a visual on you Frenchie!” “….its red Marc…” His coughing was interrupted by laughter and what Marc could only take as spitting blood. “…looks like we were right all though years ago oui?...for all the bad things we did…we will see each other in hell afterall…” “Shut up Jean Paul. Don’t you say that not to me not like this.” Moon Knight skidded the motor cycle to a stop at the base of Shadowkeep. “I’m on my way up to you now!” “…funny thing though…why is the light blinking?” Jean Paul’s voice had a moment of clarity as he stopped cough and took a breath that did not shudder him to his core.” Blinking? Moon Knight raced to the doors his mind not acknowledging the facts above him until the explosion rocked the very ground he stood on.
Glass shattered on buildings all around Shadowkeep. Debris rained down toward the street as Moon Knight stared at the upper levels of the building. The blst force had knocked him on his back and as he lay there all he could do was watch as the flames licked up and out of the high rise. Watch and scream up into the darkness. “FRENCHIE!!!” -Nearby- The wind felt magnificent against his body as he leaned out over the ledge. The scent of smoke and fire sifted through his nostrils as the flames that licked through the skyline brought a smile to the face beneath the mask. He wondered if the smile was for his first victorious strike against his new adversary or if it was for the one that was coming next. The smile widened as he lifted the picture frame in his hand and stared at the blonde beauty that stared back at him through the glass. His fingers traced along the name that was etched into the glass. Marlene. It will be lovely to make your acquaintance. It was then Grendel realized the smile was definitely for his next target. TBC
