The fight was draining and for Mari who was already combating fatigue it had become more of a battle of life and death. The girl was powerful, of that they had never been any question, but experience, training, that was something else entirely, something one so young knew nothing about and in the final moments it is what would come to cost her, her life.
Mari held the young girl in her arms long after the life had left her eyes, after the winds had dropped from around her. It wasn’t until a familiar voice pierced the silence that she snapped back to the world around.
“Put her down, she is the property of Lex Corp” Amanda Waller’s voice filled Vixen with a feeling of pure rage, never had she felt her connection with the earths morphogenic field pulse so strong, every animal instinct associated with rage bubbled just under the edge of her subconscious.
“That’s why we left you Amanda, that’s why everyone you surround yourself with either leaves you side or betrays. Because everyone is nothing more than a piece on a chess board for you to play with. It doesn’t matter that its real people, our life’s you play with”
“I was put in a position of power, not because I enjoy making the hard decisions, but because I could do it without hesitation. What I create, the decisions I make aren’t just fleets of fantasy, their decisions based on the bigger picture, the one you and your friends never want normal people to see. You talk about me as if I’m the one to be scared of, but its not me that has the strength to level a city, can see into peoples minds, fire beams of heat from my eyes. It’s you and your kind that are the real threat and it’s down to me to make sure theirs always a line to stop you”
“You ####ing hag” Vixen’s eyes glow with energy as for the first time in a long time she draws energy from the Morphogenic field, she heals her body in a glow of light, mystical claws of pure gold power envelope her hands, sharp as diamonds she lets out a slow growl. “Lion”
“Save it, right now I have at least ten guns on your position, you wouldn’t even make it half way before you would be pumped so full of lead that even someone with your power would die, now give me back what’s mine and I’ll even let you leave here”
“And if I refuse”
The large fat lady smiles before placing a finger to her top right ear, “Gentlemen” suddenly Vixen’s body lights up as at least half a dozen small red dots move across her chest.
“Fine, you can have her”
“I knew you would see it my way”
“I promise you Waller, I’ll come back for her and god help you and your men if you try and stop me” The two women glare at each other, both sizing each other up, wondering just who will make the first move. “Eagle” this time it is Mari who makes the first move, she takes to the skies, her eyes never for one second taking them off of her surroundings and Waller.

10 Minutes later:

He steps out of a night black polished limousine, his distinctive features and powerful presence makes the guards around him stand a little taller.
“She escaped”
“A calculated risk”
“A failure”
“Listen to me Lex, Vixen still knows nothing about what we have achieved here”
“Yes except you just allowed her to escape, with the location of this base burnt into her memory, it won’t take their Martian more than a second to pull that information out of her”
“You didn’t take me on because I’m I fool Lex, I had her entire body drugged with a cocktail of mixtures, in another ten minutes her mind will be so wired, hell she’ll be lucky if she can even maintain enough clarity of thought to remain airborne”
“That may be true, but from the state of the body over there, your test was a failure”
“She was a prototype, one that hadn’t received any form of training, trust me by the time I’ve finished, the earth will have a new league of heroes to worship. One’s controlled entirely by you and me”
