“Please I have children at home. I’m just a scientist. This is my job!”
“You have chosen to partake in defiling the body of Khonshu. He demands your body be defiled as well.”
Marc let the man fall from his hands as he moved to the next of the prisoners who still lived. “Be thankful he allows you to live.”
The blonde woman audibly swallowed. She barely managed to mumble. “No – please God no.”
“God? You have angered a God woman! Why do you think you’re being punished? Why do you think you are receiving the vengeance of Khonshu!?!” Marc knelt beside her lightly running his hand down the side of her face and whispered an old nursery rhyme passage. “I see the moon and the moon sees me; The moon sees somebody I'd like to be.”
She relaxed a bit and her gaze met Marc’s as he smiled back. Then with surprising speed his hand moved to her hair and pulled her head back locking it against the desk as he carved the crescent moon into her forehead.
The younger acolyte appeared beside Marc. “We have a vehicle approaching at a high rate of speed.”
“As was foretold by Khonshu.” Spector stood and turned from his deed as the woman wept. “Kill the rest.”
The acolyte bowed at the waist and moved the next in line who sat stunned even as the kukri blade slit his throat.
-Upstairs-
Batman had known there were numerous suspects too many to count from the surveillance video but even he was surprised at the sheer number of cultists that held the hallway from the east entrance. “I don’t have time for this!”
He spun landing an elbow to the back of one cultist that attacked him with a curved blade but another was upon him almost as fast. It was easy enough to disable the second one but more could be seen coming his way. A shower of arrows sliced through the air around him one almost pierced his Kevlar. “Change of plans O. It will take too long to reach the stairwell through this resistance. I’m taking the direct route.”
“Direct route?” Oracle pulled up the schematics and could not see what he was talking about.
Batman dropped to a knee and placed a ring of det cord on the floor before spinning back around and pressing a button on his utility belt. He felt the heat and debris splash across his cape from the directed blast. The blast stopped most of the cultists in their tracks for just enough time for Batman to drop through the hole to the first sub level. “Placing second charge.”
Oracle zoomed on the schematics. “Better double it. Reinforced plating for next level.”
Batman nodded to her voice even though she couldn’t see him as he pulled a second ring of det cord from his belt.
“I see the dark has sent its avatar to block out the light of the moon.”
Batman spun to see a hooded man approaching through the cloud of smoke from the earlier blast.
“I am the moon’s knight. I will put a silver light with in your black soul.” Marc’s hand flashed from his waist and a series of crescent darts flew toward Batman.
Batman lifted his cape with left hand and brought it before him but it did not deflect the blades. They sliced through it and embedded in the Kevlar of his suit. He rolled backward and came to his feet just as his opponent reached him, his curved Kukri blade slicing down.
Marc’s blow was deflected as Batman extended his arm and rolled it around the blade. He danced backward narrowly avoiding a counter strike from his opponent. Diving to his left he came up with two truncheons and his feet moved quickly beneath him as he began a series of his own new attacks.
Batman recognized the fighting as a style of Egyptian stick fencing and used his scalloped gauntlets to block most of the blows and managed to land a few of his own in the mean time.
Marc back stepped feigning a miss step and Batman followed landing a blow that struck a nerve cluster on his left arm and caused the truncheon to fall from a now limp hand. His other hand shot out in a punch that struck Batman even though he did manage to move just enough to keep it from striking it intended target. But the blow was serious as the spikes from the cestus glove tore through the Kevlar and into his shoulder.
Now both men circled each other. Each protected an opposite limb from the previous blows.
“I shall honor your passing.” Marc snapped the necklace from around his neck. The symbol for Khonshu doubling as a hand held blade. “You are a worthy opponent.”
Batman dodged the strike and side stepped another as he moved away, drawing Marc closer to him. “You weren’t.”
Marc glanced down and saw the circle of det cord beneath him. He tried to dive away as Batman pressed the button on his utility belt detonating the explosives. The blast having been directed downward was not fatal but it was disabling.
Batman stood over the hooded man, his devoted followers could already be heard scampering away to the sounds of oncoming police sirens.
