As the final bell rang, all of the teenagers cramped within the classroom rushed out, ready to get out of the prison they referred to as high school. As the rest of the class filed out of the doorway in a hasty manner, Billy barely began storing his notebook and text book into his messenger bag. Sliding the strap over his head, he allowed the pack to hang from his left shoulder, the strap resting diagonally across his chest to nestle the pouch against his hip. Walking out of the room, the teacher smiled at him, and began gathering his own belongings.
Moving through the crowded halls, the sound of thousands of conversations being held simultaneously filled his ears. As he moved silently, two boys bumped into him without any semblance of an apology, racing down the corridor to their unspecified destination. Forced against the wall, the raven haired hero brushed it off and continued on route to his locker. Once there, he rotated the black, plastic dial to input the combination; allowing him to open the allotted space to store his unneeded books, journals, and whatnot. Taking out his math and social sciences text books, he placed them within the metallic box, and slammed the door shut.
Done with what he needed to do, he made his way out towards the front of the building where he was supposed to meet up with a few friends. Moving at a slow pace, it took him a few minutes to walk towards his destination. Pushing the glass doors open, he saw two familiar faces outside; Theodore Altman and Kate Bishop.
“Where’s everyone else?” Billy asked, hoping to see all of his friends.
“Cass had a thing with her mom, and Eli had to do something for his grand parents,” Kate answered with a smile, “I’m really sorry, but I have to get going too. Something tells me you two won’t mind being left alone,” her grin widened as she started walking away.
“See you guys tomorrow,” she spoke louder as she moved farther away from them.
“Go to my house?” Billy offered, not much else for them to do, “We can watch some TV or something,” he shrugged.
“Sure,” the blue eyed teenager answered, “It’s not like I have too many choices.”
“So how was your day?” Billy asked, his hand nestled in Teddy’s, the fingers laced within one another.
“Okay, I guess; school was uneventful,” they began to converse as they continued on their way.
As Teddy and Billy walked home, they passed the Avenger’s Mansion as they had every other day. But inside they could hear things being tossed about, ruckus that was definitely unnatural. “We should go check that out,” the blond male suggested, already transforming into his true form. Now a large, green alien, he lead the way into the abandoned headquarters.
“Wait,” Wiccan protested, “this doesn’t seem smart,” he called out as his boyfriend left him outside of the black gates. Damn it, he thought to himself, magically transforming his clothes from his mandatory uniform to his Young Avengers attire. Taking to the air, the reality warper took to the air, his short, black tresses dancing in the wind.
Catching up with Hulkling, Wiccan looked around for whatever was causing the disturbance. “We don’t know what we’re getting into, we should wait for the team,” he advised.
“The team Captain America disbanded?” the half Skrull, half Kree hybrid retorted, “Right, that’ll work,” he chuckled, “Besides, I bet it’s not even a big deal. Probably just a thief or something,” he sgrugged it off, continuing his exploration till his eyes fell upon Powergirl.
Confused as to what exactly was going on, the two boys took a step back to assess the situation. “You okay?” Billy asked her, not knowing what to say as uncertainty was all too apparent in his voice. Looking up at them, the experiment lunged out at Teddy, the teen standing closest to her. Being punched into a wall, Hulkling found it hard to dislodge himself.
“TEDDY!” Wiccan yelled out of concern, and headed off the woman before she could continue her assault on his friend and teammate. Erecting a magical shield, he knew he could only hold her off for so long.
