The return trip from Westminster was almost exactly the same as it had been going to with the exception it was a hell of a lot faster. Logan had never gotten along with summers but he had never seen him like that before. The death and devastation must have gotten to him. Hell it gets to all of us sometimes. It just a little more often with me.
Logan twisted the throttle on the old Indian motorcycle and began weaving in and out of traffic. Even if he wasn’t going as fast as he was this would have been extremely dangerous, but now it just made it that much more exciting. Plus Logan was in a hurry to get to his favorite watering hole and he needed a few dozen beers to take the edge off. With any luck I just might find myself in the middle of a good ol’ bar fight. If I don’t start one myself first.
Sirens began whaling in the distance and he could tell they were heading toward him so he broke left in front of three lanes of traffic narrowly avoiding every car. The shouts of vulgarities that followed him only made him go faster but it did bring a slight smile to his face. Soon cars coming toward him were veering like mad and he was forced to brake leaving himself in the middle of the intersection.
Pedestrians were running around like chickens with their heads cut off. No rhyme or reason other than to flee the area. He sat motionless on his cycle taking in the free show wondering exactly what he was missing out on. Logan figured he might even get to see a genuine New York City superhero you know one that people actually liked. Can’t wait to see the look on Grimm’s face when I smile and wave after he gets nailed through a wall.
Logan turned at an odd whistling in the air that reached his ears. He barely had enough time to react as a black sedan sailed over his head as he ducked. Twisting the throttle again he left a tread mark as the rear tire spun out going toward the disturbance. Whoever was doing hat needed to be dealt with quickly. Especially since he still had one hell of a mad on for a beer.
People were screaming at him to go the other way as he tried to make his way threw the fleeing mass movement. It reminded him of lemmings heading toward a cliff.
His mind stopped wondering just as a chunk of asphalt sailed his way. He braked hard and reached out with his free hand extending his claws. Digging them into the pavement he felt the rush of air as the chunk passed over him. Unfortunately the added brake power jerked his cycle down hard toward the road and tore him from the seat.
Logan was in a sliding freefall across the road as he felt the flesh being torn from his leg and buttocks. The shoulder of the arm he had put down was three ways past dislocated and hurt even worse. Slamming into a parked car was what finally stopped his momentum but didn’t exactly help with anything else. Grabbing hold of the closest thing he managed to pull himself up and looked around him.
The scene looked like something out of a Michael Bay film. Cars were over turned, flames mushroomed up from nearly everywhere and water jettisoned up from fire hydrants that had been torn from their places along the sidewalk. Then that’s when he saw it. No not what was behind the mess but his Indian.
It was laying beneath an city transit bus and surprising looked pretty good for what it had just went through. I definitely looked better than Logan but he was just happy to see it still in one piece. Then the bus flipped sideways and up into the air Logan didn’t follow it, his eyes were fixed on the large green foot that just slammed down hard onto the Indian, bending it up like a strongman bends iron bars.
Logan’s head dropped then his eyes moved up as both sets of claws extended. “You just brought one hell of a beat down on yourself Banner.”
“HULK KNOWS LITTLE MAN!” The jade giant roared. “ HULK DOESN’T LIKE LITTLE MAN!”
“Hulk is about fifteen seconds from the most embarrassing moment of his life.”
