Hi Gary,
It's the most talked about major DC event for sure. I'm not much of a Green Lantern fan. Used to be one before they brought in the different coloured Lanterns. You now have Red, Orange, Blue, Violet, Black and Green Lanterns.
The Blackest Night plot is actually pretty straightforward. The Black Lanterns coming to earth and resurrecting dead DC characters but it all depends who's writing the story. With Geoff Johns writing (one of DC's top writers alongside Grant Morrison), I guess you can't go wrong.
