Posted by jaydawg on 7/26/2004, 9:17 am, in reply to "re: walk-on training" Trying to make the team via tryouts (ie a true walk-on) is a very tough thing to do, especially in the fall b/c I think the number of spots available are very limited due to the number of recruited and/or invited walk-ons coming in this fall, not to mention former walk-ons returning to the team. Good luck and if things don't work out this fall, don't let that discourage you, there's been a number of others who didn't make it their first try but they never gave up and made their way on to the team despite the odds being against them. Shaun, the person you should probably try and get in touch with is John Ballein (email: jballein@vt.edu). He's the one that generally coordinates the walk-on tryouts and would best know what you would be looking at doing during the tryouts. John has told me that anyone looking to tryout should stop by the football office during the first week of school to get the work out date. Since you seem to already know the date, you might not have to but it also probably would not hurt to stop by and introduce yourself to Mr. Ballein either.
