Posted by NCHokies Search engines that "crawl" the net like Google, Alltheweb, and Altavista are a little easier and don't really require you to open your wallet. Of course it doesn't hurt to! Basically, you just set up your site and they eventually find it and update their databases. A couple of things that I have found out myself. To submit to Yahoo, scroll to the very bottom of the site and click on 'How to Suggest a Site'. Pretty much every search engine has something like that, you just have to look for them. It's very time consuming. Personally, I think the best way to go is to purchase software to help, but I really don't know what's good and what isn't. I went out to CNET and took a look and found 3: I wish I knew more about this, but I don't. I hope this helps anyways. Check out the link, it's a good overview and may jumpstart you a little bit. This stuff is complicated and changes a lot. (http://searchenginewatch.com/webmasters/) --Previous Message-- Link: Search Engine Submission

I'm no expert at this, but I have worked some with search engines in the past. The hardest ones to get to the top on are the directories like Yahoo and Looksmart. With them you really need to cough up some cash to get to the top consistently.
1. Frames don't work very well with Search Engines. You probably want to include some HTML for NOFRAMES. NOFRAMES is usually used so that browsers without the ability to use FRAMES can still view your site, but it's also the way that search engines crawl into your site. Just create alternate web pages on your site. For example, you could create files named index2.htm, index3.htm, index4.htm, etc. that contain the pages that are currently on your site. Just don't include any frames in them. You'll need to make sure to include the navigation elements on that as well. It's a pain, but it's worth it.
2. Name your pages something descriptive such as TECHWALKONS.HTM or VTWALKONS.HTM, VTRECRUITING.HTM, MESSAGEBOARD.HTM. I've read that this helps with some search engines.
3. Include lots of KEYWORDS in your HTML META tags.
4. Use very descriptive Titles for everything
1. BuildTraffic (www.buildtraffic.com).
2. GigaPromoters (www.gigapromoters.com).
3. TrafficMagnet (www.trafficmagnet.com).
: updated the site, mostly just added some videos

: submitting this site to the major search
: engines? Hadn't realized before but I
: couldn't even find this page using google or
