I washed my clothes in the bathtub and wrung them out by hand. And for 11 years I lived in a 2 room apartment with a 2 burner hot plate and an apartment sized stove. I didn't feel deprived, though. I just made do. I lived out of a styrofoam cooler for 3 weeks when the fridge quit and the landlord couldn't make up his mind whether to fix it or replace it. But I was much younger then. I don't know if I could do it now. But human ingenuity never fails to astound me.
