Avengers Vol 4 #'s 500-503 + New Avengers #1
When you have a mutant on your team, and her power is to alter probability, you probably should sleep with one eye open. The Avengers, that team of heroes that had a history of looking the other way when recruiting villains on to the team, had quite possibly their worst day ever when the Scarlet Witch (a former member of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, I might add) decided to go ape shit and f*ck with everyone in her path. Highlights include: killing Jack of Hearts, Vision (her ex-husband), and Hawkeye, starting up a fake romance with Captain America and causing the on-the-wagon Iron Man to feel as if he was drunk again. Makes you wonder how she got a spot on the team in the first place.
Soon after, the team was reformed as Captain America and Iron Man put together a team of the best (Spider-Man), the unlikely (Luke Cage) and the overexposed (Wolverine). Soon, the team would break up (the Civil War), lose it's cornerstone and reform again. Makes you think that maybe Brian Michael Bendis actually hates the Avengers.
