If memory serves, Wanda was among those in attendance at Jean and Cyclops' wedding in X-Men #30. I don't think it was ever explicitly stated, but I'm pretty sure I remember figuring out that she was the woman seated next to Pietro. I don't think there was ever much in the traditional canon that implied a close friendship between the two, but little hints like this one certainly could have laid the groundwork for later writers to run with the idea.
