MOAM , and a few other pictures :

Clouds hung around all morning and early afternoon and temperatures stayed in the low 60'sF . Now the sun has broken out and it should get well into the 70's , but it's supposed to be a few degrees below Greensboro's high due to the fact the Greensboro had sun all morning . |
My Med Fan is flowering . One year I had red seeds on this plant . Maybe again this year .
Overview of the Med Fan palm on the left , and on the right is the biggest Butia I've seen in Winston-Salem or anywhere in the area :
My Washy put on about 3-4 feet of trunk last season . You can see that where the fronds hang straight down ( " the skirt " , and the extreme lowest part of the picture ) is the end of the year before last year's growth , and the more upright petioles that are hanging down a little , or sideways , or upright , is last year's growth . I'll have to cut off all the fronds this winter to protect it since it'll be too much trouble to protect it after this season . Those things will cut you to shreds . Of course if it stays above 17F next winter I won't protect it and it will have its skirt for another season .
Lastly , the MOAM ( Mother Of All Manihots ) . I should have cut the trunks higher . You can see live new growth right up to the top of where the trunks were cut a couple of weeks ago .
Thanks for looking .
