Sunday afternoon I was roaming from place to place taking pictures of fall foliage and lakes. It seems so were many others and all parking lots we full. Well being true to the example set by my dear friend Carl, I often don't notice no parking, no trespassing, etc. signs.(He's led me astray for over 20 years.) Well again, many others were doing the same thing. We all parked along the narrow road wherever we could and there must have been 30-40 cars at that location. There would have been much more room if it hadn't been for so many no parking signs in the way. My wife stayed in the truck while I walked a good distance throught the woods to get photos. When I came out of the woods on the way back I noticed many of the cars had left. As I walked a little father I saw why. Two police officers appeared to be giving out tickets like shooting fish in a barrel. My truck with my wife and daughter in it taking a nap was about 5 vehicles ahead of the police car on the right. A frantic cell phone call to my wife saved the day as I told her to get out of there as the police were coming up the road from behind giving out parking tickets. She drove down the road and turned around and came back to pick me up. SHE decided that it was time to head back home. Nice autumn foliage--quite brilliant! And interesting cop story. Perhaps they need one of those signs with an attitude that they like to have in New York City: "Don't Even Think Of Parking Here" (not my pic below)...

I'm all for law and order, but I think there are times when all would be best served by a little discretion and flexibility from our law enforcement officers. If people are parked so they can take some fall foliage pictures, I hardly see where that deserves a ticket. A better use of the officers' time would have been if they simply tried to move people along. You know -- something like, "Okay folks. Get your pictures and clear out." You think of all the really bad stuff going on in the world and we have cops -- public servants -- citing nature lovers for taking pictures. Jim, Wilmington, DE, 7a Last 30 Years Avg. Gary, great picture of the river and fall color. Too bad you did not get pictures of these officers actually putting the tickets on the windshields. I'm sure the local newspaper would have loved to have featured a story showing the local citizens that their tax dollars were being well spent on stopping this terrible crime.

"Yer Honor, ah'd like to plead innocent." Gary, I like your clever getaway better than any plea! Pretty pretty pictures! But the ones from your own back yard are just as appealing. Sounds like you all need a public access park for those seasonal scenes and an occasional palm romp through the swamp. Mike
