Sorry, not the best quality pictures (bad camera, even worse photographer lol). I took these this morning. I went down to the shore to check on things and snapped some pictures. It seems there has been no frost and there definitely has been no freeze. Funny how the older leaves on this Lagerstroemia 'Tuscarora' have already fallen off yet the newer ones are still green. I'm thinking it may have to do with a little bout of sooty mold it had during this wet summer. X Chitalpa tashkentensis is still summer green (this baby has grown like a weed!) This Muskogee Crape was planted as a stick last November and died to the ground, now it's about 4.5 ft. tall. That was a real pleasant surprise this season! Can't really see it, but there is also a baby Y. rostrata between the Chitalpa and this crape. Magnolia virginiana 'Santa Rosa' Ilex pedunculosa Ilex x 'Nellie R. Stevens' Ilex x attenuata 'Savannah' Pinus palustris M. grandiflora 'D.D. Blanchard'; this was discounted to say the least because the leader broke off (bought it for $5 in VA). I hope it will be OK. Baby M. grandiflora. I think this plant has the perfect size, shape, and color leaves for the species. Sabal 'Louisiana' Pinus taeda x palustris with a small R. hystrix to the left (harder to see) T. fortunei and N. domestica Butia capitata Some pictures from around the neighborhood; many annuals are still going strong. Can I get an ID on this attractive vine? Lone hydrangea flower. This rose caught my eye. Baby canna. Do I see an oleander? A white butterfly bush with a few remaining blooms. It seems so desolate in the off-season, but its also very peaceful. Some fall color pictures. The first is a row of Sassafras along my property. Here are a couple pics from my house and neighborhood upstate (borderline 6a/b): Leucothoe dug from a clump nearby. I will try to keep it tree like if possible. Close up of lustrous foliage. Anyone know what kind of yucca this is? It's growing in my neighborhood in central CT and has become slightly arborescent over the years. Location: Southern Connecticut - NYC Region 30 Year Avg. I kind of suspected the same thing with the supposed Savannah holly. It will perhaps become more clear with age? My yard is a work in progress, to say the least. Nice collection! Looks like you have most every plant I would want to grow... Like them all but I do like the Ilex 'Savannah' and pedunculosa. Smart fencing there! Stay away rabbits et al. I just planted two more L. f. today. Funny that. Really nice stuff. Thanks for showing. Mike PS I hope the eye heals soon...

great photos. the yucca seems to be filamentosa or flaccida type but perhaps under a tree which shades the Yucca in summer which promotes less frequent blooms and more legginess.

Thank you, Mike. I guess my collection is decently sizable in number and variety... but most of the plants are pretty tiny! Still much more room for improvement (and more subtrops!). Not pictured, I am also growing another two crapes (Natchez and Tonto), two clumps of Liriope 'Big Blue', a regular S. minor, a 'McCurtain' variety S. minor, and a Ligustrum lucidum out front. Another needle, four minors, an Ilex vomitoria, a Magnolia virginiana 'Australis', and a Bald Cypress are growing along the side the my house not pictured at all here. And, finally, I have two S. minor (no special ecotype) planted in the woods away from the house and two baby M. grandiflora planted about a 1/2 mile away in maritime forest conservation land. Rabbits are a huge problem for me (especially since I am not always down there to look after things) so I do like to cage up some special and/or smaller plants... At first I thought it had to be one of those because this is in the icebox part of CT, but the leaves seem just too recurving to me (not saying it's necessarily Y. recurvifolia). That, plus the fact that there are two specimens in the colony that have a good 1+ foot of trunk makes me perhaps wonder if they are hybrids. The owner kindly let me take one out of the colony and I have growing in a sunny site just up the street, we shall see if it takes on a different habit in the sun!
