Thanks, Phil.I think clear is the classiest type of Christmas lights as a side mention.I still have two questions I wish someone could help me with and that is about those teeny 1" lights.Can those lighs burn foliage if they are draped around the canopy of the plant? I want to drape the lights over the plant for warmth but also for looks. Do they add decent warmth drooped over the plant and can they burn the leaves? Thanks, Will

I don't think the little skinny 1" lights would burn the foliage but not sure. I don't think they would provide much heat for protection but should be able to use for decoration fine. But let some one answer that for sure that knows for sure! I don't think I would lay any light directly on the folage. I have seen the little mimi twinkly lights wraped all over palms but don't know the effect. I do know that some of the mini lights if one of them burn out the whole strand goes out. That could spell trouble.But there are some that stay light if another goes out. Example C7 lights = 100 Bulbs X 5W Bulbs = 500 Watts / 120 Volts = 4.17 Amps C9 lights = 137 bulbs x 7watts = 959 watts. 959 watts / 120 volts = 7.99 amps. Most mini lights = 100 Mini-lite sets draw 50 watts per set. Wattage = heat but not always the same heat. Incandescent do not burn as hot as halagen and burn hotter than florecent. But with in the incandescent bulbs the heat produced is about the same for given wattage. Wattage is Power consumed. Consider the amperage load on your breakers. Most recepticals are on 15 amp circuits some are on 20. Consider the amp load when string any lights together. Don't connect more that 3 sets of the mimi lights together due to the fact that they are using #22 guage wire. The C7 light are just about half the size of C9 but do come in 7 watt light so should produce the same amount of heat. But they still are not as small as the mimi lights. I see there are several different wattages for these bulbs. 2.5 watt, 5 watt and 7 watt. Phil Barnett Between Athens/Englewood, Tennessee North East McMinn County Zone 7b

Will, I have never found any small lights that give off much heat at all. As a matter of fact, most produce so little heat, there not even worth using, unless maybe you're wrapping them underneath some cloth/fabric. There are some C7 lights even that only produce a small amount of heat. (some do, some don't, I learned). I think I was mentioning once before, if you have a set of lights, after they've been on for a while, simply touch them and feel how warm they get (or don't get). If it feels like it's starting to burn, it certainly is too hot to touch any leaves. If there just slightly warm and are comfortable to touch I wouldn't worry. Some will not feel warm at all, so I'm sure they're of no use. The tissue of palms leaves has at least some similarities to our own skin tissue, like the ill-effects of wind chills (extra cold and drying) for both. If you don't want to waste money on the wrong lights, this is the right time of year, if you can go into a store, and if they have lights that are already out on display, you can test out for yourself right there which ones are warm/hot. But with the new types there using more of now, there may be less that give off any heat. You can still get the C9's off ebay or the internet, just don't let them touch any leaves.
