They not only survive the cold, but some of the botanists say they need the cold.
Palm guru Tamar Myers went on record about 10 years ago that “the Charlotte-Rock Hill region is the best habitat (climate and soil) for Trachys than anyplace in the world, including its native habitat in Asia”. Others say anywhere in the Piedmont from Atlanta to Raleigh is the sweet spot.
I have seen them in Vancouver and in Venice, and they look great in both places. They are very common in Venice.
