Just checked it and it is , to its detriment , growing away from the house , so the growing bud will increasingly get less protection from its great microclimate . All those great attributes of being close to the house and under the eave , etc. will be less effective over time , but it's still in a great spot . Pictures later .
My biggest Butia's trunk is 2 feet away from the house ( close ) in the best microclimate at my house , and it had green fronds after 4F here . The fronds closest to the house were even undamaged , but the fronds that were furthest from the house were burnt some , but not totally . I'll add a picture of it when the sun gets on it later today .
It's in a great microclimate with a southern exposure , an eave overhead , and wind protection from the house , and because of the eave it is relatively dry there in the winter with more than half the plant getting no ice . It , as mentioned , gets some moderating temps from being close to the house .
It's so cool to have a Butia that needs no protection into the single digits .
( In the winter it gets sun all day but there is a big Oak that gives it morning shade this time of year . )
